TEETH IN A DAY: Everything You Need to Know About Dental Implants

Are you considering dental implants but are concerned about how they will impact your ability to eat, speak, and generally function while you wait for your final prosthesis? Maybe you are concerned that there will be long gaps without your teeth while you heal from removing your tooth and the implant surgery.

If so, consider one-day implants or teeth in the same day, also known as immediate loading. The advantage of this procedure is your teeth removal, implant placement, and delivery of a fixed prosthetic will be completed in one visit.

As a dental professional practicing this technique for over two decades, I can attest to its ability to immediately restore speech and near function. However, there is a lot of confusion and misleading information about the treatment and what to expect. So, let’s take a closer look.

It’s important to note that you won’t get your final prosthesis on the day of the procedure. Instead, you’ll receive a temporary acrylic bridge. Additionally, you’ll have to stick to a strict soft diet for the next two months until the healing is complete. This can be inconvenient, but it’s necessary for the procedure’s success.

So, how does the process work? First, we’ll do a diagnostic clinical exam and take photos. Then, we’ll use our digital scan to make an impression and our 3D printer to fabricate the models. We’ll also take an in-office CT scan to evaluate the amount of bone and finalize the treatment plan. We’ll use this information to fabricate a 3D-printed surgical guide, which minimizes surgical time and improves the surgical and prosthetic outcomes. On the day of the surgery, we’ll remove the teeth and place the implants immediately. Then, we create a fixed temporary bridge inserted on the same day. While you can use your teeth immediately, we strongly recommend sticking to a soft diet during healing. This will ensure good healing and promote the best outcome for the procedure.

You will need to come in for an assessment after your surgery so we can check the progression of your post-procedure healing. Once your gum and bone have healed, we will begin the fabrication of your final implant bridge. All the work is completed at Obeid Dental by our master lab technician.
